Reminiscing of Firefly
May. 25th, 2009 09:12 amWhenever I watch Firefly, I'm always reminded of the first time I ever saw it. I was such a big Dark Angel fan, that when they took my Jensen Ackles and Jessica Alba away from me for a Space Cowboy show I refused to watch said show. Then came the Serenity trailers... I was in love. How could I not have watched the show that spawned what looked to be such an awesome movie. Then someone told me it was Joss Whedon's work. Now prior to this I was never particularly big on fandoms. I had been quite into the Buffy fandom in the early days, however that had slipped by the wayside about Season 4 when they took away my Angel/Buffy, but I digress
I was spending the summer with my family in Australia and on our way home from the movies where we saw the trailer for Serenity I insisted that we stop at the video store to see if they had Firefly on DVD to rent. They surely did. What occurred next was a TV marathon of epic proportions. My little sister and I put on the DVD to check out the first episode, and got up about 13 hours later having watched the whole thing!
What can I say it was love at first sight. The introductions to all the characters in Serenity (and now I'm talking about the episode and not the movie) was brilliant. I mean Wash with his dinosaurs, Kaylee in the engine room, Simon... They just really set the scene for the characters. One of the most outstanding and amazing moments for me in this episode however would have to be the moment where Mal realises what Simon has in his luggage. I still get goosebumps now after the 12th time I've watched this episode.
